Development in information and communication technology has opened up almost unlimited possibilities for the development of new types of services. The future is here and now: the veritable jungle of web services is varied and diverse – and with every day that passes it becomes even more so.
The transfer of the services we use on a daily basis to the web will continue to grow in speed and scope. In order for these services to serve all of us, they must be flexible, adaptable and reliable. In addition it is important to be able to respond to people’s needs swiftly – to ensure that new services are able to be both efficiently and effectively productive.
The primary aim of the Flexible Services research programme is to both develop a new digital services infrastructure as well as to develop tools and functionality that enhance that infrastructure. The second aim is to create a “Web of Services”, which serves as the basis for global service markets.
This programme began in 2008, and it’s most recent stage (launched in 2010) is built around three main themes: service concepts, user experience and ICT-based tools which support further development.
