24.01.2012Call for ParallaX SRA-preparationDear All,
This is an official invitation to participate in the Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) preparation phase of the Parallel Acceleration (ParallaX) program within TIVIT SHOK and a call for presenting research themes for the program.
The goal of the program is to achieve ten X improvement over current embedded systems.
Themes envisioned for the program include, but are not limited to the following:
• hardware for parallel cyber physical systems; particularly multi-core systems
• performance portability of parallel software
• matching the abstraction level faced by the programmer to the application
• leveraging joint optimization starting from parallel application, through programming model and platform management down to reconfigurable hardware architecture
• efficiently exploiting all levels of parallelism from parallel program descriptions achieving scalability, portability, malleability, and maintainability
Thus, in practice
• In a single core efficient utilization of instruction and data parallelism
• In multicore task and thread level parallelism
• In distributed and shared memory architectures efficient distribution of tasks and load balancing between computation nodes
• In hardware leveraging the customization and reconfigurability for a greener computation architecture
Suggestions for new themes are welcome, particularly emphasizing the needs of the Finnish industry.
The first call for proposals workshops will be organized as follows:
Thu Feb. 9, 2012 at 12 noon – 4 PM in Nokia Research Center (auditorium) Itämerenkatu 11-13, 00180 Helsinki.
Fri Feb. 10, 2012 at 12 noon – 4 PM in Nokia, Hermia 2 (auditorium) Hermiankatu 12, 33720 Tampere. Please use the Hermia 5, Visiokatu 1 reception to sign in.
Fri Feb. 17, 2012 at 12 noon – 4 PM in Nokia, Peltola (A5) Yrttipellontie 1, 90230 Oulu

28.11.20113rd European Summit on the Future InternetTIVIT and SnT (Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust of the University of Luxembourg) will jointly organise a high-class international event on 31.5.-1.6.2012 in Dipoli, Espoo, Finland. The 2012 special focus is: Towards Future Internet International Collaboration.
After the two very successful editions in 2009 and 2010 organised by SnT, it is a great pleasure to jointly carry out the 3rd European Summit on the Future Internet. The programme as it is being conceived will represent a unique opportunity to understand the future ahead and confront your views with those of a carefully selected panel of extraordinary speakers.

25.11.2011Shared Testbed to Strengthen Research at the Leading Universities
CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd, Tampere University of Technology (TUT), Aalto University, and Tampere Region Exchange (TREX) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Internet Testbed Finland, a service that will enable more efficient Internet research collaboration and shared use of Internet networks and services.
To ensure continuity of the Internet testbed services created in the Future Internet research programme of TIVIT Oy, the most active members of its testbed working group have founded a consortium called Internet Testbed Finland. The consortium will integrate its research network services under a common operating model to increase efficiency in the provision, use, maintenance, and marketing of services for different research collaboration partners.
