Funding for Tivit’s projects can come from different sources which include Tekes (the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation), Akatemia (The Academy of Finland), Sitra (the Finnish Innovation Fund) and the European Union. Our projects are not bound by any application period and we openly inform about the preparation of projects on our website.
Tekes works as the most important public contributor to the projects. Tivit coordinates the preparation of projects and also the process of applying to Tekes. The opportunity to participate in projects funded by Tekes is open to anyone who 1) satisfies the general conditions of Tekes 2) whose participation will bring something new to the project and 3) who is ready to play an active role in a new ecosystem. In addition, projects must fulfil the criteria set out by the board of Tivit which can be found in PDF form by following this link (in Finnish). More information about the role which Tekes plays in funding Strategic Centres for Science, Technology and Innovation can be found on Tekes’s webpage.
Akatemia participates in the work of Tivit by funding the latter’s high-level research in research institutes. All the forms of funding available from Akatemia can be used to support Tivit’s SRA-topic area research.
The programmes are normally carried out as a group project within the framework of a consortium agreement. The principles of the consortium agreement have been approved by the board of Tivit. A model agreement covering the principles is always taken as the starting point when drawing up a new agreement and this model agreement is always shown here once the final version has been decided upon.
Ready model agreements and rules such as IPR regulations speed up the preparation of programmes and thereby help those involved to focus on the most important area – that of know-how and the birth of results in an innovative working environment.
To help fund Tivit’s work, an administrative fee is collected from each participant in any project that was decided upon by Tivit’s board (2% of costs in 2008-2009). Tekes approves the administrative fee as a cost in the Tekes-funding of research partners.
